About / why we built this site

Why we built this site

Repair shops today are pushed to chase profit, and diagnosis still depends on years of individual experience. Mechanics are ageing and that experience is hard to pass on. And the time spent diagnosing can't simply be billed as labour.

Each company keeps its own failure cases, scattered and biased, and they are not shared. So the same symptom gets tackled in a different order at every shop.

At the same time, we respect people who want to fix their own cars. If basic diagnostic knowledge spreads, needless repairs go down and people's lives get a little better.

Collecting and sharing cases is something Japan can build now. We aggregate nationwide repair cases and our own, and a mechanic reviews what to suspect first for each symptom. That is this site. We show only medians and ranges of real costs, never declare a cause, and always say: confirm with an inspection.
